My father entered the US Army 4 days after turning 18 in October of 1949. He did his basic training in Fort Riley, KS and then attended Radio Repairman's School in Fort Gordon, GA. He graduated early and was transfered to the 518th Signal Radio Relay Company. The Company left for Fort Lawton, WA for transportation to Korea in September of 1950. The Company was attached to GHQ Long Lines Signal Group and given responsibility of all land line communications from South Korea to Japan. All of the men who originally shipped out with the Company to Korea, returned to the United States in May of 1952. He was honorably discharged from the Army on November 11, 1952.
